Poverty and the lack of skilled opticians affect millions of people who do not have the spectacles they desperately need.
For those in the poorest countries and the developing world with poor vision, education and employment are out of reach. Many find daily living difficult and dangerous.

With the right spectacles to correct vision deficiencies their lives can be transformed, people can learn, work and achieve a quality of life otherwise completely unobtainable. Hence the need for charities like VAO.

Vision Aid Overseas is a charity dedicated to helping people in the developing world. Often they live in remote rural locations where optical services do not exist and their lives are blighted by poor eyesight. The charity sends abroad teams of volunteer optometrists and dispensing opticians from the UK to help educate and train local community workers in eye care skills and set up clinics, screen large numbers of patients and provide appropriate spectacles.

Founded in 1985, Vision Aid Overseas Specsort process at its headquarters grades the recycled spectacles kindly donated by the general public. Millions of people in the developing world are still in need of a pair of spectacles to live an ordinary life, so if you would like more information about the work of Vision Aid Overseas, please visit their website www.vao.org.uk or call them on 01293 535016.
